Prior to starting Evans Outdoor Adventures in 2015, we visited some incredible sites across the American West. As time permits, I’m going back into our photo vault to share some of those memorable adventures with you. In this post, I’ll be sharing our 2012 visit to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson, Arizona.
Visiting Tucson and looking for a great way to spend the day? Consider visiting the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, a zoo, botanical garden, art gallery, natural history museum, and aquarium all in one! Their mission is to inspire people to live in harmony with the natural world by fostering love, appreciation, and understanding of the Sonoran Desert. This is a spectacular facility and well worth a visit.
Jason and I visited the museum back in March 2012 on a trip to Phoenix and Tucson. It was our last day before flying home and temperatures had risen into the low 90s. It was too warm for hiking and we wanted to try something different, so we headed for the museum. Many of the animal stars were hiding in the shade for much of our visit (they were smarter than us), but we still saw lots of stunning flora and fauna.
While the animals are the stars of the museum, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the volunteers we met. Most were local retirees and they really made the place something special. Our favorite moment of the day was when we encountered a particular volunteer for a second time. She hollered across the courtyard to another volunteer, “this is the young couple from Washington that I was telling you about.” This particular volunteer was well into her 90s. She was physically and mentally fit and still able to drive herself the two hours round-trip to and from the museum. She was simply adorable and a real inspiration. Heck, I can’t remember someone I just met, let alone pick them out of a crowd hours later.
The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is located on the west side of Tucson, adjacent to Old Tucson, Saguaro National Park West, and Tucson Mountain Park. Tickets range in price up to $21.95 for adults. Parking is free. Click here for more information on ticket prices and hours of operation. Click here for a park map.

Great post! Don’t forget it’s spelled Sonora not Senora! Awesome experience.
Thanks for visiting Luis and thanks for the correction! 🙂
