We spent the first week of September exploring the Oregon Coast from Florence south to Crescent City, California. I have spent a lot of time exploring the northern half of the coast, but the area south of Florence was largely unknown to both of us. We were hoping to find locations that would feel much less crowded and touristy than northern destinations such as Cannon Beach—and, of course, some good hiking!
Most of our first day was spent making the nine hour drive from our home in SE Washington. After checking into the Old Town Inn, we walked over to Old Town Florence and enjoyed a beautiful evening stroll along the Siuslaw River. My favorite find of the day was four of the twenty Dancing with Sea Lions sculptures.
Florence is a charming coastal town and I’ve always enjoyed my visits there. Unfortunately, our time in Florence was much too short. We left the following morning and headed south to Shore Acres State Park.
